From 22nd - 24th October, 2025, Silverbacks Pharmacy proudly participated in the National Safe Motherhood Conference, a landmark gathering that brought together health professionals, policymakers, researchers, and innovators united under the theme, “Strengthening Maternal Health Systems for a Safer, Healthier Future.”
The conference served as a vital platform to share evidence, showcase innovation, and drive collective action toward reducing maternal mortality and advancing reproductive health across Uganda and the region.
A Shared Vision for Safe Motherhood
Maternal mortality remains a pressing challenge in Uganda and sub-Saharan Africa. According to the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (UDHS 2022), the maternal mortality ratio declined from 336 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2016 to 189 per 100,000 surpassing the NDPIII target. Similarly, neonatal mortality decreased from 27 to 22 deaths per 1,000 live birth, moving Uganda closer to achieving its national and global targets.
These figures underscore the urgent need for scalable, evidence-based solutions to prevent avoidable deaths and support healthcare workers in delivering timely, lifesaving care.
Silverbacks Pharmacy at the Forefront
As part of our commitment to advancing maternal health, Silverbacks Pharmacy showcased an engaging and interactive booth that highlighted cutting-edge solutions for managing obstetric emergencies — particularly Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH).
Our exhibit featured training materials, and expert discussions on Celox PPH, a revolutionary hemostatic tamponade engineered to control severe postpartum bleeding within minutes. Designed for both facility and community-level use, Celox PPH empowers midwives, obstetricians, and emergency responders to act swiftly and effectively in critical moments.
Alongside Celox PPH, the Silverbacks team also presented a range of maternal care innovations and emergency response devices that align with the conference’s vision of safe, sustainable motherhood. These included:

The Silverbacks team also emphasized the need for integrated training and policy support to ensure every health worker can confidently manage PPH — the leading cause of maternal mortality.
